The Town of Mestia
The town of Mestia is the administrative centre of the Upper Svaneti. It is
situated at the confluence of Mestiachala and Mulakhula rivers and is
surrounded by Zuruldi ridge from the South, Mount Tskhakvzagara form the North,
Banguriani Mountain range from the East. Panoramic view of the Layla peak opens
in the West.

- Svaneti Ethnographical - Historical Museum;
- Exposition of the archeological expedition base;
- The Margiani Family's Svanetian dwelling;
- The world famous rock-climber's Mikheil Khergiani's house-museum;
- The famous skier's Boris Kakhiani's house-museum;
- The Zargaashi ancient age ore mining well near Mestia.
In addition, you will be given an opportunity to sample mineral water from
different springs, the abundance of which could be found in the areas
surrounding Mestia.
It is recommended to see the slopes of Mount Hatzvala, which reveals the most
beautiful panoramic view of the Greater Caucasus range.
Last but not the least we invite you to Svaneti Mountain Tourism Centre,
which is located in the town of Mestia (7 Stalin street - 200m from the main
square). The Centre will always welcome you warmly. At the Centre, you will find
a fair offering you traditional Svanetian produce. We will be happy to assist

From Mestia you can take the "Chalaadi"
route, which takes you via Mestiachala, and Chaladani River gorges to the rocky
range of Chatani peak where the Chalaadi glacier is forming.
