Makrine Kurdiani - "The Landlady of Ushba"
Since 20's of the last century the house of Makrine Kurdiani served as a shelter for all scientific and alpinist expeditions. In the first row, from the left: Makrine Kurdiani, Egnate Gabliani - a great intercessor of Svaneti; Aliosha Japaridze - a well-known alpinist and the initiator of the first hydrologic studies in Georgia. The first Alpine Club in the Soviets was named after him; Levan Maruashvili - a well-known geographer an glaciologist; In the second row: Sandro Gvalia - a pioneer and popularizer of mountain skiing sports; Andro Abashidze - a doctor; Alexandra Japaridze - an alpinist, initiator of meteorological investigations in Svaneti; professor Soso Aslanishvili - one of the first masters of sport in mountaineering, investigator of goiter problems in Svaneti, the endocrinology clinic in Tbilisi was named after him. In the third row: an alpinist Gio Niguriani and Iagor Kazalikashvili - the participants of the first Georgian expedition to Ushba in 1934, Germane Memanishvili - the family head.
